Can I import Actual data instead of List?

I have record in Excel with following format:

COL1 Col2 Col3
ROW1 xxx xxx xxx
ROW2 xxx xxx xxx
ROW3 xxx xxx xxx
.
.
.
ROWX xxx xxx xxx

i want to import this data into my account receivables in the Chart of account. How do I do this? I know of IIF. But when I use File, Utility, Import, I see only options to import lists. Can I import actual data instead of list?

Any help would do.

Thanks.

I guess I have to rephrase my previous enquiry.

How do I create an IIF file for import?

I want to import a table containing three columns as shown above : Column1 contains names, column2 contains addresses, column3 contains amounts paid. I want to import these into my accounts receivable.

If you search www.quickbooks.com/support for IIF it going to give you examples of what you can import to QB and in what format it should be

Thanx. I have been going thro the Quickbooks help and its making sense so far to me, yet I do not want to make any errors.

Now, it says something like if you want to create an IIF file that is expected to contain transactions, then you have to create an excel document with the following entries:

TRNS! TRNSTYPE DATE ACCNT AMOUNT
TRNS payment 11/02/03 accounts Receivable 500.20
TRNS invoice 08/06/03 accounts Receivable 1500.20
TRNS payment 11/03/03 accounts Receivable 350.20

The above is a sample format. The types in CAPS are quickbooks necessary entries. the types in lower case are my data. The first row and the first column are therefore fixed formats. (there are many entries for the first row which I have ommited. The ones i have choosen here are required, others are optional and have been ignored, and I think these suits my purpose)

Now, under the TRNSTYPE, quickbooks gives a list of possible transaction types that can be in that column. They include:

bill, billccard, bilpmt, bill refund, cash refund, cash sale, ccard refund, check, credit card, credit memo, deposit, estimates, general journal, invoice, payment, purchord, transfer.

I make my entries in a register and i am not sure whether my transaction type falls within any of the types above. Are there more possible transaction types that are not included in the quickbooks help?

I was thinking any entry made using registers have an equivalent form method of posting, but I dont seem to find such for my entries which I make using the accounts receivable register. I need to be sure of the type of transaction. How do I find that out.

Email me, my address is on this forum. IIF files are difficult, but not impossible. The STMTCHG is a statement charge - is that what you are trying to import? give me some details of what you are trying to do and what data you are using.
