Question Can I import a Quickbooks Pro file from 2005 to 2012?

I'm going to have to get a new PC soon. My last version of Quickbooks Pro, 2005, will not work on a new Windows 7 machine easily, so I'm going to have to buy Quickbooks Pro 2012.

Can I import my 2005 info into 2012 easily? I already know how to backup my Quickbooks Pro 2005 data, so can I import into 2012 using this file?

2013 will be available shortly, it might be a good idea to wait so that you have a supported product for one more year.

To answer your question.....Maybe. 2005 had a different database than 2012 does. Make sure you have a good backup before you do anything.

I have heard other proadvisors say they had no problem upgrading from 2005 to later editions (2011,2012) while others encountered problems. I recently upgraded a clients file from 2005 to 2010 without a problem.

Give it a shot. If you have trouble you can call someone that has a copy in between (say 2008 or 2009) on do a step upgrade.
