Multi-User Pro 2002 over a VPN

Has anyone had luck running Pro 2002 over a VPN using DSL lines and Linksys routers.

It runs, but takes many minutes to connect to the company. Once in the company it seems to work fine. Startup time is painful

We do this all the time with no problems. Can you supply configuration of client and server? Perhaps I can help.

We are running Pro 2003

2 locations with DSL 1.5 Down 128 Up with Linksys Routers Model BEFSX41.

We are hosting the database at location A where there are 2 users with 2 additional users at location B. The users at location B can connect, but it takes several minutes to open the company..very slow.

All PC's are Windows 2000, Celeron 800's with min 256 ram.

We have mapped drives between the client PC's and the Hosting PC.

It does run, it's just really slow. What do you think?

Is the long response time limited to QB or are other programs similarly affected? Do you have password on your shares or can users see the 'host' drive? Does the other client at location A that accesses the 'host' computer have any lag time?

We can browse folders between building just fine. We really don't do anything else over the VPN.

The other user in building A is able to work quickly.

We are using mapped drives without passwords.

Try to...

You may try to open a sample file. If it opens faster, that means you have huge data file and that causes to suffer from long Startup. There are some ways to lower the data file size. If it's the case I'll provide you with more info.
