You can create a separate item for each pricing.

or

Try using the unit of measure option. . . or price levels. . .

Question - Are you actually trying to track the sale of each apple in QuickBooks, or is an apple an example, as in widget?

What is your business and how are you trying to use QuickBooks?

the apple is an example i own a novelty items store which i sell items to regular consumers but also sells to other stores... and i want to set an item to go lower in price the more the client buy... i tried using price levels but i dont really understand it... and unit measure i also tried it and set the quantity of each but i didnt see the options to set the price of them.. what im doin right now is making the other prices as sub-items but i would like in one single item to lower the price itself the more qty i add... how i could do that? and thanks for your help laura

I think the price level option might be worth looking at. . .set different price levels - qty 12, qty 100, etc. . .or 20% (for specific discount).

If you have Premier, you will have more options. . .

However -
Are you tracking individual sales in QuickBooks? Are you trying to track inventory type items in QuickBooks?

It sounds like you might think about entering Daily Sales Summaries into QuickBooks and track the inventory outside of QuickBooks.

Just want to clarify this - I need to do the same thing.

Laura - are you saying that (using Dinamax's example) in my 'Price Level List', I have four items:
  1. 1 apple = $1
  2. 12 apples = $8.40
  3. 6 dozen = $36
  4. 12 dozen = $57.60

If a customer orders 9 apples, I choose item #1, quantity 9.

If a customer orders 13 apples, I choose item #1, quantity 1, and item #2, quantity 1

If a customer orders 90 apples, I choose item #1, quantity 6, and item #2 quantity 1, and item #3, quantity 1

Thx for helping

No, what she is saying is use the Item for apple that has a rate of $1.00 but set up the price levels based on quantity with Quantity of 12 at 70%, Qty of 72 (6 doz) at 50% and 144 (12 doz) at 40%.

When you open the Price List and create a new one you should see the different options, in the newer version there should be option Based on Quantity.

Nope - can't find what you mean. I'm using Man&Whole Premier 2011/12.

I have clicked on Lists, then Price Level Lists. I get a blank page, apart from a button marked Price Level in the bottom left corner. I drop-up that and click New. That gives me an option to adjust current price by a %age, but nothing by Quantity, or bulk discount.

I have clicked on Customers, then Change Item Prices. I get a list of Items, and again the option to adjust current price by a %age, but nothing by Quantity, or bulk discount.

I have clicked on Lists, then Item Lists. I get a list of Items, in a different format to the one referred to above. I right click, and then click New. There is nothing here about Quantity, or bulk discount.

Where should I click next? (Here in Australia it will soon be home-time and I will be clicking my car-keys..... I will check-in again tomorrow)

Not sure, it is in the US version 2011 and 2012, not sure if it is in your version.

You have one item - apple.

Then, set up the Price Levels. Name them (Qty)1, (Qty) 12, (Qty)6 Doz, etc. or something meaningful.

Create the Price Levels to be @ the % of the base price.
1 - Price Level 100%

12 - Price Level 30% less than Base Price

6 Doz - Price Level 50% less than Base Price
If a customer orders 90 apples, my guess is that they would all be at the 50% (6 Doz) pricing, but that would depend on how the items/qty is setup.

I hope this helps,

My 02

If this were me: I would have a schedule of Customer/Item/Quantity/Price and refer to it when creating the invoice.

This way 1)It simplifies QB entries, and 2) It allows me to quietly charge varying prices depending on Customer.

The important thing is this:

You only create 1 item.

Then, use Price Levels, or a manual override, to calculate the price adjustment for that specific qty/customer.
