"No Company Open" ?

QBP_2005

When opening the program I am frequently greeted with the dialogue box 'No Company Open.' There will be 2 or 3 filenames to choose from and all are identical. Only one of the files, the first listing, is the actual data file and will load.

It seems that only after I began backing up the data file and then restoring the data file did this screen start appearing.

Can someone tell me how to avoid QB from becoming confused and thinking that there are multiple instances of the same filename?

Go back and try to figure out how you responded when restoring. You must have more than one database in play here.

Since only the first in the list is correct, delete the others from the system
so you won't accidentally use the wrong one. They will continue to show up in your list unless you restrict the number of "previous companies" in the file>open previous dropdown.

No company file open

You have (or had) more than one instance of your QuickBooks file. . .and/or moved the location, which would show up as if there was more than one instance.

To solve your problem, do this:

Open your current file. Confirm that it is the one that you want to keep.

Then, go to File:Open Previous Company:Set number of previous company files to '1'.

Now, you will only see the one that you want.

Next, while the file is still open, do this:

Search your computer by *.qbw

This will show you all company files residing on your computer. Delete (or rename) the ones that you don't need.

Since your active file is open, the system will not allow you to delete that one.

Thanks Laura,

We made the correction per your advice and will now wait and see.

Btw, I have another question that I posted at the same time as this one. The other related to why the application (now) opens in a different navigator screen versus the one the application used to and if it is possible to 'tell' the software which navigator screen you prefer opens as the default location?

Thanks,

Mark

Open the Navigator that you want to open automatically.

Then, go to Edit>preferences>Desktop and select "save current".

Does this give you what you are looking for?
