Export file format

In trying to import my inventory data, I realized the best way to do so was to export a sample item, then make my data follow that format.

I noticed something odd, however. When you export the data, it creates two columns labeled QNTY, side by side (columns 9 and 10).

The first column appears to hold the Quantity on Hand data. The second column seems to be a valuation of your QoH times the unit cost.

The reason I note this is because even though I made my data conform to the export format, it won't correctly import the QoH, all values are set to zero even though they hold non-zero figures in the import file.

Is this as it should be? Should the import file format have TWO columns named exactly the same? Might that not be why my QoH data won't import correctly?

Any ideas?

Thanks
John

You cannot import the quantity on hand using the Item list. You are right that the second column is for the value of the SOH. Intuit advise that in order to get quantities in, you must import the file and then manually adjust the SOH. As part of a yet unfinished project we have written some code that can take an item file and create a transaction IIF file that will enter all of the opening SOH values. If you have major problems, email me.

I can only assume that this is to keep all of the accounting straight in the GL. It makes sense to import the item data but force the quantity numbers through the accounting code.

Thanks for the response.
