insurance claim check

How do you enter an insurance claim check? I don't think the previous bookkeeper entered the claim correctly for just one of a few items, like most of the entries in the last 6 months.

You can enter it using Other Income account. Or you can post the check to the account that was charged for the damage, such as Repairs & Maintenance. This will reduce the expense in that account instead of showing the check as income.
