EXCEL into QuickBooks-error

When trying to import Excel into QuickBooks we are getting a consistent error message- "Invalid Item Type". We have used the item types from the QuickBooks sample company (export into Excel and make up bogus Excel sheet) and still are getting these errors. How do we import Excel data into QuickBooks?
At present we are using Business Works Gold and are trying to take the data from there into QuickBooks using exported data from BW into Excel.

I had the same problem, I dowloaded items from one client and tried uploading to another client. The item type that gets downloaded is not the right type. You need to change it.

IE - download says "stock", but had to retype to "stock part" for the upload.
