Question Any issues with changing sales tax rates?

I am using QB Premier Contractor Edition 2006.

I work for a contractor in Washington State. Sales tax rates for all the cities in one county changed from 8.8% to 8.9% effective April 1.

We have some construction projects that we have billed at the 8.8% rate before April 1, which we will continue to bill on now, at the new 8.9% rate.

My question is - can I just go into my sales tax item and change the rate, without affecting past invoices or entries that used that item?

Or do I have to create a whole new sales tax item for the new rates and make the old ones inactive?

I figured I should ask before I made this change. Thank you so much for your help!

When you edit a Sales TAx item and change it's rate, the "new" rate will apply only to New or edited invoices that you change the ietm in the Tax field.
If you open a previous invoice and need to change the sales tax rate on it, select a differant Sales tax item in the Tax field, then re-select the correct sales tax to get the NEW sales tax rate on that invoice.
