Bank only supports download of IIF file-HELP

We have recently changed banks that only offers downloading of transactions as a IIF file. I have no clue how to open this file or import it into our QuickBooks 2004 Pro company bank file. I have read some of the Help suggestions like "Creating an import file" but all this seems so time consuming that seems like what our new bank offers as far as "online banking" is fairly useless. I just want to be able to download transaction into our Quickbooks.
Any suggestions or am I making this more difficult than it really is?
