multi-user

Hi. If I'm in a multiuser environment does the host computer always have to be turned on? If so, what happens if it fails? Is it possible to web connect multi-users for different locations? Thanks.

If the host computer has the data file and it is NOT ON, or Fails, then the data access is disconnectecd. For access to the data files, the Host has to be on and the network active.

Joe, I really appreciate your help, you have helped me out several times. Is there another way to work out multi-user without depending on a host, refreshing the file when opening the company in the main computer? I think of that because it can actually happen causing a stall in the business.

QuickBooks definitation of Host is "Host is the computer that contains the data file that is shared to the other workstations". The usees working in the file should keep it updated to the most current transaction. If you are haveing problems with the "Network server" you can usually select one of the workstations as a "Host" and copy the date file to a new folder that is Sahred on that PC and then on the otehr PCs map that PC'c shared folder as a drive letter like X ans access it on them as X and in the new folder on the "New Host".
