Check Writer Software
What check writer software is recommended that will print the complete check from QBs on blank check stock? Do you use magnetic toner? Does the check writer require extra steps in the check printing process in QBs? Can it print a password protected signature on the check? Thanks for all comments!

I've used these programs for years - I currently have Checkmagic (www.checkmagic.com) and it is great. You can manipulate the MICR line and the addressing information independently of each other. And the price was great (less than $50, I think).
Yes, I do use magnetic toner (and a dedicated printer) which isn't all that more expensive than regular. The only extra step is that once you tell QB to print the checks to a file then you have to go to the check program and tell it to print (make sure the checks are in the printer). Yes on the sig too - and logos!

Check Printing Software
For the past five years, I have been using the VersaCheck programs to print up checks that I use in Quicken and QuickBooks with normal non-magnetic toner.
You can see their most current programs at: http://www.g7ps.com/ Good luck. Kerry |

Thanks Nancy & Taxguru. I have purchased the personal version of Check Magic. I am using QB 2001. I installed it and gave a quick attempt at printing a check. I was not successful and did not have time to troubleshoot my effort. It seems to require some addl steps that make it somewhat less efficient than I want. But if many checks are printed in the check run then I can see it being beneficial. I also have used versa checks and I have been very satisfied with it. However, I like to avoid printing the blank checks in one run and then putting the blank check back thru to pay vendors etc. Thanks again, I will let you know how I progress with checkmagic.

I agree, Check Magic takes a few minutes to setup correctly (as do any of the MICR programs) but it is well worth the 15 minutes, trust me. The hardest part is getting everything in the right position - that is just trial and error. Also, follow their instructions EXACTLY as I skipped a step that cost me some extra time in the set-up.

check writer software
I have used Printboss which allows multiple issues to be handled. It is considerably more expensive 395.00 list but it also allows multiple signature lines based on amount, signature disk usage, no additional steps unless controls require them, reprint and archive ability for check copies and a whole host of extra items. Setup is not easy but once it is running it runs forever....
