Has anyone successfully set up Job Numbers in QB 2006.
My boss wants to create a unique job number for each customer job. A customer may have multiple jobs. The boss wants QB to assign a unique job number for each job. Is any of this possible? |

I have set up job numbers using lthe "Class List". The first 100 I use for cost centers, the 200 series I use for T&M contracts, the 300s for "CPFF" contracts, 400s for T&M contracts. This has been working very well for us.

Would you mind sharing how you assign customer job numbers as I am somewhat new and would like to become more proficient in the area of job numbers.

The way I used job numbers is in the YYMM then number, like 0604001 for the first job in April 2006. The number sequence is just a way to count how many that you have. You could use 2006 and the number of jobs that you have in 2006.

I am using the format 2006 with a sequential number starting with 0001 for each job.
My main question is where to put the job number in QB. In the customer screen I select new customer & job and select new job. I enter the job number in the Job Name Field. Is this the correct way to enter job numbers? Thanks |

Yes that is correct. Receive the customer paymwent against the parten customer name. You can then apply it to any of the open jobs. Yuo can run the job profitability report and see all of the customer's jobs. If you click the collapse button at the top of the report it will give a summary for the total of the customers jobs.
