Account Number Format

Does anyone know how to expand the digits in the account number field? QB2004 appears to allow for seven digits. I would like to have space for nine or ten digits in the GL account number. Example: XXXXXX-XXX

QB won't accept that many digits, and if you're using a dash between sets of digits it looks as if you're trying to create department/division numbers - and that won't work either because you cannot print a P & L for that - you have to use Classes for that purpose.
