Printing Form 941

I am running QB 2001 Pro & Windows 2000. When I try to print form 941, Quickbooks shuts down without printing. My printer is a Deskjet 1220C. I have been able to print to winfax and print the 941 from there. I have no trouble printing any other forms, reports, etc.

Try reinstalling your printer. Had something similar happen after my computer was serviced and this fixed it. Make sure that you get the current printer driver/patches fromt the HP website, just to make sure. Have you been able to print a 941 to this printer before - if not, it could be a printer memory problem (not enough memory).

I have uninstalled the printer and reinstalled using the newest driver posted on the H-P website. I have been able to print form 941 in the past. When I try to print form 941 the Quickbooks shuts down and the printer icon is shown in the tray, but when you open the printer folder it has now documents listed. I have even tried loading older drivers for my printer with the same result. The print dialog box lets me pick which printer I want to use and when I pick winfax it puts the form into winfax and I can print it from there. Thanks for the reply, if you have any other ideas, let me know.

Sorry, I wish I had more for you. I've got a problem with Adobe right now (adding weird characters part way down the page...)...I'll keep you in mind if I run across anything. Can you print from other programs to that printer? I'm wondering if it is an uncooperative cable (ok, it's a stretch!!) Something is odd if there are no documents listed...

I can print invoices, checks and reports without any problems from Quickbooks. I printed the 941 from Winfax after printing it from Quickbooks to Winfax. I have had no other problems printing with the printer from any other programs. Thanks for the reply.

My only thought is a printer memory problem - that 941 is detailed (the lines etc.). Can you install someone else's printer and print the 941? Just a thought...trying to elimanate problems...

You might try the standard routine of reinstalling QB and making sure all updates (program and payroll tables) are installed properly. This shouldn't be the problem, but sometimes cleaning it out and reinstalling works. QB had a problem for a short time last year with QB 2001 where a program update would download and appear to be installed, but, for some reason, wasn't actually installed properly. You can't tell from looking, but Intuit customer support told me about it, so I did a full download and update on the program and payroll tax tables and the problem went away (different problem from what you are having, but possibly the same cause).
