Inventory Change, Single and Multi-user Problems

I’ve previously posted the following messages but received no reply. Would be grateful if anyone has any suggestions:

While working on some invoices, I receive
"QB has encountered a problem and needs to close. sorry for inconvenience. if you were in the middle of something, the info you were working on might be lost. Tell Microsoft."
Also, I have been repeatedly getting the message:

“QB cannot support the inventory change you just made in multi-user for and needs to shut
down. After QB has shut down, re-open the file in single user mode by choosing Switch to single-user moder frmo the File menu.

You will need to reenter your last change again.”

The problem is:
The program has been shutting down whether I am in single or multi-user form.”

Any suggestions?

What version of QB's?

How long has the problem been going on?

Have you verified the data integrity recently?

And...what is the computer specs?

Sorry for so many questions....but there isn't enough information to suggest what the problem might be yet.

The first program when the program closes and asks that I report to Microsoft has been going on for about one week.

The second, when I am instructed to switch to single-user mode is about two weeks old.

In both instances, the problems are erratic. I also noticed that the second problem arises when preparing Purchase Orders too.

Note that, after I reboot as a result of either incident, I sometimes reenter the same info and there would be no problem.

Unless there is a procedure for verifying data integrity, no this has not been done and how do I do so?. If it's a matter of verifying the accuracy of the data visually, all seems to be fine.

I am using
- Windows XP
- 356 RAM with sufficient HD space
- QB Premier 2003

error msg.

With respect to the first problem the following would help:

Unexpected Error: An error has occurred in QuickBooks. C=342.
QuickBooks has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Possible
Cause: The QuickBooks shortcut or executable file (the file that is used to start an application) is set to Windows compatibility mode for Microsoft® Windows® 95, Microsoft® Windows® 98, or Microsoft® Windows Me.

Answer: To resolve this error:

Right-click the QuickBooks program icon on your Microsoft® Windows® desktop, and then choose Properties. (Or, click the Microsoft® Windows® Start button, choose Programs, then right-click the QuickBooks shortcut, and then choose Properties.)
Click the Compatibility tab.
Clear the checkmark from the Run this program in compatibility mode for: option.
Click OK.
You should now be able to start QuickBooks without receiving the error.
The sol. to the rest of the probs. follows in the following posts.
keep apprised.
thanx,
sourabh.

multi user mode

This is with respect to entering PO in multi user mode.Hope this would help u:

When two users are recording a purchase order at the same time,
there can be problems. To prevent this from happening, have only one user at a time enter purchase orders.

To prevent this from happening, have only one user at a time enter purchase orders.

If this does occur, create an open purchase order report and add columns for Entered/Last Modified and Last modified by. This will answer the question of what purchase order number was used on a transaction and who entered it.

To create this report:

From the QuickBooks Reports menu, choose Purchases and then Open Purchase Orders.
Click Modify Report on the report window buttonbar.
Select the columns you want to add from the Display tab.
Click OK.
Note: To delete columns, clear the checkmark for each column you want to delete.
Even inventory adjustment is not recomended in multi user mode.
thanx,
sourabh.

data verification

U can verify data by going to 'file' then go to 'utilities' then go to verify data.
Note: all of ur windows should be closed at that point of time otherwise the "verify data" option will not be active.
thanx,
sourabh.
