Voiding or deleting a credit memo

I have an invoice that totals $950 that was paid in full at the time of the transaction. A week later I had to refund $32 of the paid in full transaction. In the process of making a credit memo, I somehow managed to make a credit memo for $1900 (twice the original amount). I went to void or delete the credit memo and it keeps giving me the message

'you need to delete this payment line item from the deposit before you can delete the transaction itself, or edit its name or amount'

what I have tried so far:

- deleted the original $950 payment in full from my deposit

- deleted the original invoice for $950

Why a credit memo at all?
The transaction was completed, you did infact receive teh 950 and deposit that amount.

I would have just wrote a check for 32 and use the refunds/allowances income account as the expense for the check
