can 2 different computers work in the same company file?

We have QB 2011 on desktop running windows 7. We are soon to get a new Windows 7 computer and plan to run the same QB 2011 software on it.

Is there a trick to being multi user in that scenario, or alternatively can the old computer merge changes into the new computer's company file?

Thanks

Ray

sure you can setup multi user in Quickbooks. But sorry, I don't know how to set that up.

multiuser

that may require buying a newer version of QB than I have (2011), or so I thought

thanks for your reply.

Thanks in advance to any further replies. I will not be checking until I get back in the office on Monday.

Cheers!
Ray

Intuit has a tutorial on how to setup multi user environment. But I'm not sure you can do it with the very old version like that

you can not buy a multi user license for 2011 anymore

if you want to be able to work from one computer at a time, but on the same data file, a peer to peer local network works.

there is a third party utility here that will transfer transaction from one file to another, http://www.q2q.us/indexutilities.htm
I am not affiliated.

another option is to back up from the file menu after each use, copy the back up to a google drive folder (or similar) and when using the other computer copy the back up out of google drive to a hard drive folder and restore from back up. The copy to and from the google drive can be done with a dos script

regardless of how you get the data from one data file to another you must think of the decision making process by two people. person A looks at the data, and while he/she is getting ready to enter a change person B alooks at the same data and arrives at a different decision, and not only that one the latest stow wins.

It takes a fairly complex process to accurately share data between two users on two systems. Although I don't know for sure but I would be surprised if the PC level code handles data sharing across computer systems.

You can host quickbooks on private cloud server for multi-user access. On cloud server, you can even access your PC from anywhere, anytime.

If you would like to share QuickBooks files between these two computers just for intermittent collaboration without the need for simultaneous remote access, you should check out Qbox. It is an amazing tool that many rave about. Check out their website if this is something you may be interested in www.qboxplus.com

Updated plan

I'm hoping that i can buy the latest QuickBooks PRO ( 2015?) and 2 licenses and then work from 2 desktops on the same data. The data would reside in the new computer that i will now buy.

Can anyone verify that i can do that, or is there more to it?

Are there annual charges for licenses, or QB software?

Thanks in advance
