Report Showing Amount Of Retainer Used

I work on retainer.

When a customer funds their retainer I record the payment using the instructions here:

http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com...icles/HOW13288

I need to know how to run a report showing the amount of retainer used by a customer. I need to keep track of the retainer balance so having a quick and easy report is important.

Thank you for any assistance.

Right click on the deposit account in the chart of accounts and select quick report, customize and see if you can sort by customer name.

Another possibility: Use QuickBooks' job tool, treating each retainer as a separate job, to record both revenue and expenses for particular individual. Note that an individual customer can have more than one job associated with his or her name.

Then run a Profit and Loss by Jobs report filtered on multiple names. Memorize that report and then select particular job when report is needed.

Warning: I use only the premier version of QuickBooks and, accordingly, don't know if all other versions have the job tool.
