convert QBO to desktop

I found this over at intuits site, thought it would be a good reference, sticky? maybe

First, we're going to open a fresh session of Internet Explorer in 32 bit mode. To do this, click the Start button in the lower left of your monitor and we're going to choose Run. Type iexplore in that box, then click Okay. Use this browser window to log into QuickBooks Online. Once we're signed in, we're going to want to follow the next steps:

Click the gear in the upper right of your Home screen and choose Export Data from the dropdown.
You may or may not see this message: IMPORTANT: Before you can perform either of the tasks below, you must install an ActiveX control. If you don't see the message, proceed to step 3. If you do see the message but, below it you see ActiveX control successfully installed. You can..., proceed to step 3. If you do see the message and below it you see an Install... button, you'll need to click Install and finish the Active X installation in order to complete the export, then proceed to step 3.
Choose the type of data we'd like to export. We can choose from Lists (transfers the contents of your lists along with their current balances), or Lists & Transactions (transfers your transactions in addition to your lists to QuickBooks desktop edition).
Click Next. The export process varies depending upon which type of data you select:
Lists - On the next screen you will be prompted to print a list of details about small data changes that will be made during the conversion. We highly recommended that you review this list and print it before continuing the export. Click Next and carefully follow the step-by-step process listed.
Lists & Transactions - Choose which QuickBooks version you'll be exporting to, then click Next. QuickBooks will scan your data for special conditions with the export; carefully read each limitation, then click to mark each one. Click Next after you're comfortable with the list of limitations (each one must be checked to continue). Enter the name and email address where you want be notified when the export file is ready and then click Prepare Data.

Now you've got to give us a little bit of time for us to prepare the file for you. It could take an hour, a few hours, or even a day. You might want to get a snack and a juice box. We'll email you when it's done! Once you've gotten that email, we're going to take steps to complete the export conversion:

Open QuickBooks Pro/Premier in single user mode. If you have a paid version of QuickBooks Pro/Premier, make sure to have No Company Open (File > Close Company); if you have a trial version that allows for it, you will need to open a sample company; otherwise, have No Company Open.
Sign in to your QBO company and go to the Home page.
On your Home screen, under Activities, click the link "Download the company file created on XX/XX/20XX". Note: This link will expire and disappear from the Home page 10 days after the export. If the link is gone, we'll have to redo the export process.
Click I'm moving my data to QuickBooks desktop edition.
Click Next, read screen, then click Next again.
Click Download.
In the Save your company file to screen, click the Save in: drop-down and select the hard drive location to save your file (generally Desktop is easiest to use) and then click Save.
Once the file called export_company.qbxml is downloaded, close all other applications except QuickBooks Online and your desktop version of QuickBooks.
Within QuickBooks, close any company or additional windows you have open; you should be at the No Company Open screen.
On the QuickBooks Online Export window that appears once the download is complete, click the Convert button.
When the Create New QuickBooks file window opens, choose a name and location for your new company. We want to make sure that we're saving the file to same location as your QuickBooks Pro or Premier is saved.
If you get a certificate warning in QuickBooks desktop, click Yes, prompt each time then Continue and Done to confirm. In some versions of QuickBooks you simply click Yes, This Time to continue.

Sometimes, the certificate does not pop up in your copy of QuickBooks desktop and we need to do some troubleshooting to get it to show. If that's the case, here's my handy-dandy never-fail guide to making that certificate pop!

In Internet Explorer, Click on Tools > Internet Options > Security Tab > Trusted Sites > Sites.
Add the QuickBooks Online web site to the trusted sites list (
Sign back into QuickBooks Online.
Press F12 to open the Developer Options menu at the bottom of the browser.
On the right hand side of the Developer Menu, you should see a button titled Browser Mode. We're going to change the browser mode to IE8 Compatibility View.

This should allow you to see that certificate in QuickBooks!

After you export the data, run a Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss on all dates in Accrual to be sure that all transactions have come over.
