Quickbooks 2008 to 2018

I have a question. I am trying to use Quickbooks 2018 to open my qbb files on a thumbdrive. I am having difficulty opening the files. Should I try and save them as QBW to open/restore my company?

10 years is too big a jump for QB, you will need to step up the file format a couple of times

Call around and find someone with 2011/2012 installed, restore the '08 back up file, run rebuild and verify then make a back up.

You can try restoring it in 2018, but I would bet you will need at least one more step up using 2014/2015

QB does not play well with removable drives, copy the back up file to the computer hard drive and restore from there.

If you bought 2018 from intuit you can call them they will step up the file for free
