Error -6176 when opening file
I have started getting the following error when opening Quickbooks:
Error: -6176, 0 Quickbooks cannot get the network address of the server. The event log says: An unexpected error has occured in "QuickBooks: EasyStart Edition": DMError Information:-6176Additional Info:We were unable to obtain the IP address this was probably caused because the file is on a distributed file system. The help information to resolve this error indicates the problem can occur when the data file is on a different computer than the software. However, in my case they are both located on the same hard drive. The error occurs both when trying to open the file from within Quickbooks and when double clicking on the .QBW file from it's folder in explorer. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice. |

Interestingly, I also get the same error if I try to set up a new company file. One would think it knew the address it was trying to save the new file too!
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Quickbooks but still get the same error. Thanks for any advice. |

When you launch "QuickBooks: EasyStart Edition" and try to create a new company file, what is the full path to that data file?
Try creating it in the My Documents folder instead of the QB install folder. Just other info. "QuickBooks: EasyStart Edition" CANNOT open files from older versions of QB!

The full path to the original data file is C:\users\Public\Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks\Compan y Files\
That's the file I've been using with this version of QB for the last year or so. When I try to make a new company file, I get the same error when it tries to save it to the desktop, My Documents, or a removable drive. I tried using uninstall / repair to repair the installation, but got an error 1334 - ITFSdk.dll cannot be installed. So I uninstalled QB and reinstalled with a fresh download from the web, but the same problem still occurs. |

Check out this URL from Intuit.
http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com...icles/SLN41925 It gives several options for that error.
