I'm with the majority on this one with Fish Bowl. They've been a pretty good referral to some of our clients that deal with complex inventory management. We've even considered doing some business book summaries focused specifically around training employees to manage the software as well.

It has been our experience that the technology is changing so fast that a module and ONLINE approach should be taken. The drivers are mobility with tablets and smart phones, and the increasing need for ONLINE operational accounting systems, rather than desktop applications. With mobility there is the conflicting proprietory opex of the hardeware - Apple, Androied, Microsoft and others. In this latter area great work is being done in the area of HTML5 and beyond. From a productivity and simplistity of operations viewpoint - barcode in/out/count - is very important (this extends to tracking serila numbers and used by dates); in the case of mobile workers (with the ever increasing number) the prevailing MYOD (my own device) movement is growing expontially becaudse young savy workers do not wish to use out of date hardware- this leads to HTML + being the way forward. As regards on premises asset management - this needs scanning and serial number identification, whereas mobile warehouses (containers, site offices/warehouses, refrigerated trucks)-all need to be sepasrate loctions as do consignment stocks so that the system can generate quotes, saleoders, invoices - out of any location, as well as transfer, and also accomplish jobs from installtion through to on premises service! We are in AUS where productivity in a hugh geographic country requires all this. Our belief is that subscription annual payment with optional modules and allowing the larger SMB compnaies - customisation - is the way to go! I am using latest Fishbowl Inventory software for QuickBooks. I am using hosted version from Real Time Cloud Services. It integrates well with QuickBooks and working fine.
