Item List Opening

My Item List is sorted alphabetically but every time I reopen the Item List it goes too and highlights the item Utilities. If I make Utilities inactive and reopen the list it opens at the first item beginning with the letter “A” How can I stop it opening with Utilities please? Have I done something wrong?
Thanks
SJ

Try editing the item Utilities and see if there is a space before the letter U and delete it is there is.
If this is not the problem, click, the item button and click Resort.

Thanks for the reply but there is no space before the word and resorting only manages to put Utilities at the top of the sorted list above letter A.

What happens when you click on the Item title bar?

When I first open Item List it opens at Utilities
First item in list is A
If I click the diamond the list sorts to Utilities at top followed by "A" and diamond disappears
Click on Name list re-sorts with A at top diamond re-appears
If I sort by Description then item with lowest number sorts at top, if I close and re-open it opens to Utilities.
If I re-sort Utilities goes to the top.

I have looked at this problem again as it is still bugging me. It appears that the list jumps to Utilities first as that is the only "Service" in the list. Has anyone got a work around to change all the service items to another category? I know I was warned but I never foresaw this problem!
Thanks

QB sorts by Item Type then name: Service, Inventory Non-Inventory, Other Charge and Discount. There is no way to change that.

Sorry I didnt explain that right. I can change the item from Service to Other Charge from now going forward but is there a work around to change all my previous tranactions that were under "service" to "other charge". Thats what I meant when I said I was warned about making the item a Service originally.

Not directly, you would have to make a new item then edit ALL transactions using the old service item and change it to the new Other Charge one.
Just edit the Service Item and add * to it and make it inactive and create a new Other Charge item with the old item name.
