Inventory be3longs to your company, when it is used (put on invoice/sales receipt) QB will remove the purchase amount in Inventory Asset and post it to COGS with the Customer:Job on that transaction.

Inventory Items

Sorry
I may not have explained the previous post clear enough so I have attached a print screen page.

I have chemicals as COGS that I need to report where they were sold or used on customers jobs so I need to be able to allocate them when I input the bill from my creditor. If I use an expense item then there is no problem but I have to many to do it that way so I need to be able to do under the items list tab.

Your attachment is empty.

I can only say what Joe has said. I wonder if you're not actually invoicing customers explicitly for the chemicals, but trying to account for chemicals used in jobs after the fact?

Inventory

Sorry but no I have not invoiced my customer yet. Now I cannot get my picture to attach even though it is well below the limit.

I have also tried through preferences to add that in but there is nothing there that can be changed. Right clicking on the actual bill does not allow for changes.

I am at a loss for what I can do.

You can open a bill by double-clicking it from a report or register.

Are you saying there is no 'Customer:Job' column on your bills?

Which version of QuickBooks are you using?

There is no space for customer job when I am inputting a bill while I am using the item tab.
Terminology I just thought of is backcharging to customers

Which version of QuickBooks are you running - year and variety (Pro, or whatever)?

Is this Australian? 'Plus' seems to be a flavour of QB that has full inventory in it, so I would expect your Bill Items tab to look something like mine in QuickBooks 2010 Pro UK, as attached, excepting the VAT, of course.

Hi RobJoy
Yes I am in Australia and that is how I would like mine to look.
I worked out to get an attachment on here so show how my page is currently showing when I go to input a bill
Your VAT is called GST here

Your attachment is too small to see properly, but I think you are missing the two columns required: 'Customer:Job' and 'Billable'.

Can an Aussie please confirm whether they should be there in this version, 'cos this Limey's not able to find out?
