This is a payroll related question.
Version: Pro 2013 Release R7P
I run full payroll, with QB doing all reporting (quarterly, annual, etc.).

I need to run a payroll audit report for WC purposes. They request the gross payroll totals per state and classification number. I do this easily by running the QB payroll summary, importing to excel and then creating the calculations in excel.

However, the insurance company requires copies of the 941 reports. When I compare the QB summary report totals with the 941 quarterly reports they don't match. They tend to be off by anywhere between 3 and 5%.

Anyone have any idea why the gross payroll on the summary report created by QB would not match the taxable wages and tips on the 941 created by QB?

Thanks,
Nick

Hi, the company has i work for has recently decided to incorporate employee contributions for medical payments. With our payroll company it is all set up with the correct deductions but now i have to figure out how to pay the set amount and which account to assign it to in quickbooks.

So i'm wondering, i want to set up a sub-account to assign the payments to but am unsure exactly where i should assign it. Do i need to consider it under 'employee wages and benefits' or under 'insurance'? I think i should put it under 'wages and benefits' but just thought i would check before i go ahead and create the new account.

Thanks for any help.

Sorry to bring this post back up, but I couldn't find my other one. Joe, I've been entering all my bills in as "credits" instead of bills. In doing this I am not coming up with the correct Profit and Loss statement. In changing them all to bills, will that affect any other report other than showing them "negative" or "plus", ??? I don't want to mess everything up, but I would like to have the correct Profit and Loss Statement, just in case I have to provide a copy for anyone. Thanks again, and sorry for the duplicate. I got tied up with the everyday business thing, and didn't get it settled before...

Hey everyone-

My name is Jacob, and I currently live in the Charlotte NC area. I am pretty new to QuickBooks, and I am interested in learning more.

I am working on starting my own company, and I know that I will need to know accounting at some point- so what better way to learn that by sticking around a good forum?

My business mentor developed some software for his business that streamlines and automates Purchase Order creation in QuickBooks, and I am helping him market and sell it, but I won't talk about it too much here unless it is relevant as I would hate to get banned or be seen as a spammer (if you want more details PM me, but I won't post much about it publicly).

Looking forward to learning.

Jacob

Inventory --Balance Sheet Problem

We use the inventory system with quickbooks. We manufacture overseas and ship it directly from overseas so in the US we never have to deal with it...

We use the inventory system with quickbooks. We manufacture overseas and ship it directly from overseas so in the US we never have to deal with it physically; however, at one point it looked as though we were going to manage production from US so we went ahead and put it the item numbers as items we track and that is how we got into this little mess.
The QB process is to put in customer orders as sales orders, then generate a purchase order for the factory. Then when the order is shipped, the sales order is converted to an invoice and the purchase order is converted into a bill. This process makes the inventory work correctly and is very helpful when you are actually managing production. But, for a while we were not managing production and we skipped the first parts of the process: the sales orders and the purchase orders. That is where the problem started. We just made bills to account for what we owed the factory and those costs went straight to COS. We made invoices to account for what the customer owed us. This caused our inventory to be negative in the items that were shipped without purchase orders.
I need to figure out how to account for this and get the inventory value correct again. Luckily there are only 4 items to fix, but it is probably a million dollar problem.
This will be at least a four step fix, but if someone else has already done it, maybe there is a better way. Thanks! Rochelle
