I have a small business with 3 employees. I need to determine which program would best suit my business needs as well as personal bookkeeping. I need to prepare financials, keep track of incoming gross receipts and vendor payments. I need a program that will allow me to write checks. Any advise would be appreciated.

I would suggest Pro or Higher.....the Basic version is just to limited. Depending on what type of business, you may want to consider Premier Accountant.

Also, to make payroll a real snap....look at using Paycycle.com, excellent service, inexpensive, .... payroll has never been so easy :-)

I have used many accounts packages and QUICKBOOKS is by far the worst. I have been in accounting for 18 years and I phoned INTUIT to find out how I could post a refund once I had raised a credit note.

They informed me that unless I had an annual support plan costing me £ 380.00 a year, they would not answer my question. Surely this is basic accounting.

Invoice, receive payment, credit refund payment but obviously not to INTUIT or QUICKBOOKS.

I have used SAGE and PEGASUS accounting software and both do SMALL BUSINESS PACKAGES. I Suggest you check these ones out.
