I am using Quickbooks Pro 2003 in Indonesia. With the Rupiah currency having such large number sizes in total digits; i.e. millions, billions, how can I either change the field sizes in the program, or how can I input larger numbers? I get continuous overflow messages when I enter large amounts.

There are limitations on the size - I have emailed Reckon, the Australian developers of QuickBooks. Will have an answer in a day or so.

Dear Mr. Gibson,

Are we making any progress on obtaining info from "Reckon" regarding what could be done to rectify my problem? I appreciate the timeliness of your original response.

Had a reply from my contact in Reckon. He is looking into it. Like me, he believes the Australian-produced version will always have these limitations. However, he is finding out if a version is available that addesses these issues for Indonesia. I am not sure if Reckon Australia do the distribution in Indonesia, but the product sold there would definitely origininate with reckon Australia.

Thank you very much for your efforts to date. I do appreciate it.

I am an American who has worked here for over 30 years, and I think this software package would have high appeal in the Indonesian markets if it were truely capable of supporting the Indonesian currency.

I believe that the package is priced right for the market here and would sell like crazy compared to the other software packages available here such as ACCPAC, etc.

Reckon, as a company, should definitely look into this and perhaps provide some type of patch to enable the change to fully support local currency data input insofar as number of digits in the field sizes goes.

Regards,

Phoenix

I have forwarded your comments to Reckon. We can expect a reply - though I am not sure what the answer will be.

Got the reply from Reckon. The matter has been passed on to the National Sales Manager. For the moment, that is about as good as we can get. Will wait for developments.

I spoke to my contact on the phone on Friday. This is the unofficial answer.
Indonesia is supplied by Qcom in Singapore, who hold the rights to sell in South East Asia. They source from Australia.

There is a limitation on the number of digits and this is unlikely to be able to be changed in the current version. This limitation is set by the original US version on which others are based. The next US version is being written on an sql database and it is possible that additional digits could be made available, but the decision will be with Intuit USA. It will be necessary to make Intuit USA aware of the issue in order to get the change. It probably would be best to make contact with Qcom

and talk to them about the issue.

well well well why doesnt it supprise me that Reckon is shifting the blame!

if the product cant support the home country's currency the what the hell is Reckon doing selling this product into another country???

I recieved similar replies err excuses when i complained bitterly about some programming errors in 2002 , 2003 ...they used the us as a scapegoat........claiming that they couldnt fix as they dont have the source code

when the 2003 version was released there was some big errors which was fixed fairly quickly along with the smaller ones which only I to my knowledge had complained about...but they always said US had to do it ie fix it as they couldnt... this excuse is crap as reckon must have access to code otherwise they couldnt make changes when our system eg TAX alters

There are two areas here. One is POS, the other is QuickBooks. Reckon have the code to QuickPOS because they develop it.
QuickBooks actually comes from the US via canada and the UK to Australia. There are some things they can change, there are some things they cannot. Intiut is trying to create a common programme (except for the Tax requirements). Reckon, in their defence, cannot change things that relate to the programme in general - that has to be done in the US. So blame Reckon where they are in the wrong, but understand it is not always their fault, and they are not always in a position to fix it.
But there certainly ARE areas where we can reasonably be critical.

Hi Phoenix,

I would like to ask if your concern above was solved. I read Mr. Gibsons reply, it seems that nothing could be done. Its very dissapointing. I'm a quickbook fun and have been using it for more than 3 years now.

I am encountering the same problems right now. Hope you could give me updates if your concern has a solution or been solved.

Thanks in advance.
