My boss just sent me to learn QB 2004. Now he wants me to transfer all 8 companies over to the new software. The problem: the controller wants me to duplicate the current P & L in ACCPAC over to QB. Any suggestions? Any easy way to do this? Can anyone tell me whether I transfer my current vendor list from ACCPAC into QB? I'm talking about approximately 1200 vendors. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks

You can export from Accpac and import into QB most of your files. You cannot import specific transactions, but you can import balances, as well as itme, vendor and customer lists.

Best place to strat is reading thehelp section about importing.

What you will need to do is to export the files from AccPac. I have deleted the copy I had, so I can't give specific instructions, but all accounting programs have an export feature.

You then need to enter at least one customer, item, customer, vendor, etc. into QB. Then, you need to export those files from QB and open with Excel, or another spreadsheet or database. Qb calls them iif files, but you can rename to "csv" and open as such.

I tell you to export nd open the QB files so you get the "template" of the QB setup, column headres, etc.

Then, you need to edit your AccPac data to agree with the QB file setup.

Be careful of things like zip codes with leading zeros, address setup, is there field for each city, state & zip, or are they all in one. Same with area codes, phone numbers. You must make the AccPac files fit the QB type format exactly!

You must also remove all commas and quotes. If you have inventory items with commas in the descriptions, they must be removed. "Washer, 1/4 inch, flat." must become "1/4 inch flat washer". NO commas, NO quotes!

Once you get the AccPac data in the QB format, you can save as a .csv file and import into QB.

Again, study the help section on import, it gives a good overview.

Also, there are several folks on this board who offer data conversion for a price, if you feel like it's too much of a challange for you.
