I have just become Treasurer for our church and up until now, everything has been the "old way"...I have installed QB Basic 2002 for them and we are going to start the data entry for the beginning of 2002. In reviewing the checks to enter, there are several 4th quarter payments for 2001 that were paid on January 4th, 2002. The Board would like for the reports to reflect only what was for this current year. For example, say we support ABC Ministries about $1200 per year, based on a percentage of our receipts (tithes & offerings), for the first 3 quarters they receive $300.00, then on the forth quarter they will recieve $300, plus any extra based on the aformentioned percentage. The board wants to know what we paid ABC Ministries for 2002, not for 2001. Am I making any sense??? Is it really as hard as I am explaining it...I know that the solution has to be an easy one.
And any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

When you enter those outstanding checks, use their actual dates in the prior year.
