I have used Quickbooks for a number of years but I have never used this feature before. I have tried to setup the download as stated in the Help facility but it doesn't work. The error message that I get is:

Quickbooks was unable to make a secure connection to this financial institution. Please try again. If the problem persists, contact your finacial institution. [0L-249]

Does anyone know what is going on? I have contacted my bank and they have assured me that their servers are working and I should be able to download the data.

Thanks for any help.

I found the solution here:

Title Errors received when attempting to start an online banking session
KB ID#: 287258
Categories: Banking, Internet

Question: Why do I receive an error containing one of the following values when I attempt to start an online banking session?

OL-202, OL-231, OL-232, OL-248, OL-249, or OL-297

Possible
Cause: On August 27, 2002, Intuit updated the security certificate on our branding server. This update may cause errors for some online banking customers.

Answer: To resolve this issue, download the latest update for your version of QuickBooks.

If you have trouble receiving the update, or if the update appears to complete but the errors still occur, reset the download status and try again:

From the QuickBooks File menu, choose Update QuickBooks.
Click the Update button.
Hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and click the Get Updates button.
Click OK on the Reset Updates message. QuickBooks will download the latest update again.
If you still receive OL errors when starting an online banking session, please contact QuickBooks Technical Support for additional assistance.

I have installed the latest update a couple of times but I still get the error message. I also came to the conclusion that I would likely have to talk to Intuit but I hate paying money to fix a problem when it is likely the software's fault.

I do not think you will be charged for the support, because the cause of the problem. However, I might be wrong.

No, I called intuit and they won't charge me for support on this issue. They simply will not provide support paid for or otherwise. I was informed that they do not provide support for 2001. It is too old.

I do not know the rules for Canada, but in US intuit supports QB 2001-2004.
