I just bought peachtree and didn't install it because I found that the program will be disabled unless you give them all your personal and business information in exchange for a "registration" code number. I assume this is so they can send me spam and pretend I requested it by "voluntarily"registering personal information. After spending $250 on their product, they give you no choice on participating in their marketing database or else your product won't work. Could I expect this same kind of extortion from quickbooks?

Are you sure that there was no option per question, example "other" or "not disclosed" or something..
IMHO - Anything that is personal and not required to operate the software may be illegal.
I would email the vendor/manufacturer and discuss it. See if they have a 1-800 number.

Ps with QBooks, I disclose only the minimal amount of informationsuch as,
name address,
tel number,
email address (sometimes, anti-spam address) and product numbers,
number of employed I keep to 1 (discourages spams).
All the rest, "none of the above" or something.
IMHO - Somehow, in this day and age,
we seem to be exposed to an "over-kill" of adverts.
I wonder why the time, effort and investment is not placed in better service and products.
