In QB Pro 2002, I am trying to set up an item that will be sold in different package quantities. I know I can receive them as individual units, but they will be sold in packs only of 25 or 100.

Is there a way to set up 2 different itme numbers, priced by the pack that would reduce the inventory by the corresponding amount, but price them seperately?

In other words, the price per piece will be more on the pack of 25, so if I set it up with an individual piece price, I would have to manually adjust it every time the other size pack is sold.

I thought I could use it as an inventory item and set up groups for the packs, but it won't allow me to set prices, even though I can set the quantity.

Am I just stuck with having to manually change one of the prices depending on which pack I sell? I have to do that now with dozen pricing and sometimes it gets overlooked! :-(

Thanks for any help someone can offer.

You could occassionally combine single items into the 'multiple' items using a simple inventory adjustment. Take -25 on "Widgets" and +1 on the "25 pack of Widgets".

Thanks Dave,

I had thought about that, actually receiving them as seperate packs of either 25 or 100. My fear though is that with the constant shuffling of inventory adjustments, the counts would be very susceptible to error.

No doubt if I make more packs of 100 than packs of 25..everyone will want the 25 pack and vice versa...Murphy hangs out here a lot! :-)

I think that may be more trouble than just receiving as individual "widgets" and then adjusting the price manually depending on the size pack ordered.

I appreciate the help though. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking any possibilities. Thanks.

No matter which method you use there will be room for human error. Just need to pick a method that is easiest for you or your employees.

Ain't that the truth!

Now, if I could only fire this Murphy guy... :-)

Thanks again for the help.
