I have a couple of companies set up in my Quickbooks. I only ever use the one company. Last time I used it, when I went to close the company to exit the program I got a message that read "cannot close company. There is another application running that is using this company. Close down application."

I have no clue what application this could be referring to. I do not recall running anything else. Is there anywhere I could go to find out what was running? I cannot even exit and close my computer because this message keeps popping up. Can I just soft boot out? I am hoping not to lose any information doing this. Has anyone had experience with this that they could pass on to me?
thanks

Seems like a virus to me. Make sure you have the latest anti-virus software running and then try again.

Virus more than likely but also make sure that QB wasn't running twice or that any add-in program(if you have any) wasn't trying to access the data file.

virus likely, but it is slightly possible that it is your Explorer still running

QB uses it to go online...even without telling you sometimes

repeat virus is most likely...just mentioned Explorer as a last resort

Don't let these people scare you into thinking you have a virus! "VIRUS" is the immediate suspicion of people who have taken a computer course and subsequently think they are now computer engineers. Since the computer class they took didn't cover the problem you are describing, "it must be a virus".

Certainly, a great deal more information is needed to determine the cause of this problem; however, the limited amount of information you provided would seem to hint that you have launched QB simultaneously on your system. Which version of Windows and QB are you running? Have you looked at your task list to see if there is a "QBW32.exe" running? I would suspect that if you open the task list, you wil discover this to be the case. If you locate this file, end task on it and re-open the task list. Repeat this process until you no longer find it listed. If you are unable to locate the QBW32.EXE upon initially opening the task list, attempt to end task on QuickBooks and re-open the task list again. End task on everything in the list except for EXPLORER and SYSTRAY.

At this point, you should at least be able to reboot the computer.

If I could assist you in further problems, please don't hesistate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Jeff
