Hi everyone,
i'm trying to use my copy of quickbooks on my laptop, which is 1 of 2 licenses i have for my business.

I am currently not on the same network as my office computer, and therefore not being able to sync my files correctly.

I have my company file, as well as my quickbooks 2011 server in a dropbox folder.

I can access the files on either computer, however, when i'm not on the same network, they do not update correctly.

Any help? anything i can do?

thanks!

If I read your post correctly the following is true; ignoring the network.

1. You have QB installed on two different computers, same version, undated the same.
2. You access your QB file, via a dropbox folder, from each of the two computers. Your QB server is in the same dropbox folder.

Questions:
Why are you using QB server?
What do you mean by "they do not update correctly?"

Trying to fully understand your problem.

I have found using dropbox to store a quickbooks file not a very good option. I have run into errors and issues myself with this.

Currently I use dropbox for backups only.

One reason many have problems with dropbox is that it is constantly trying to sync your dropbox folder to their servers. You might try turing off dropbox syncing while using your QB files, and then turn syncing back on when finished.

Good luck!!

i use the qb server, because it's what we were told to use when using multi licenses.

When i say they don't update correctly i mean invoices will show up on one computer, but not the other, even though we are using the same file.

Is there another server i can use that will work better than dropbox? i haven't founded anything that works when i'm traveling besides that!

Have you tried using logmein.com on your office computer and accessing the desktop remotely from your laptop?

i haven't tried logmein, but i do have another remote viewer installed.

the problem with doing that is A, it's a hassle. B, it's on my partner's computer, which has Mail linked to his email account. So every time an invoice is sent, it's sent from his email address, when i need to be getting the replies.

Unfortunately, your setup is what is causing the hassle. How about a third computer with a remote desktop for you to access and store the file on.

i honestly refuse to believe there isn't a way to make this work. maybe not with dropbox, but i def. feel like i should be allowed to edit my file without having to remotely view a computer at my office.
