I'm using QB 99 Pro, with the R4 patch installed. I've been trying to install my tax table update--everything goes swimmingly while downloading, then I get the error message, "Cannot find version." When I try to review my W-2s, it tells me that I don't have the newest tax tables so it won't let me review them. Can anyone tell me why I'm getting this message, and how to help QB find my version information? I have found the version information myself in QB, but the program itself isn't finding it.
Thanks in advance.

This is almost always caused by someone physically moving the quickbooks folder from where it was originally installed.
Couple things to do:
1. do a search for reboot.bat and double click the file it will re-register all the quickbooks keys for the registry.
If that does not do it.
Simply do a search for qbw32.exe if there is more than one than and you do not have multiple version of QB installed one of these will need to be removed.
if you find only one qbw32.exe note the file location and reinstall quickbooks overtop of current install. Make sure to chose custom install and specify the location to install to(the same folder as where qbw32.exe is)
You will need to get you maintenance release again to get you back to r4 but you should be able to download and install the payroll update now.
as always if you remove or delete any files make sure your data file is backed up in safe place.
let me know.....

Quicky--thanks so much. The reinstall worked like a charm and I can now get the W-2s out on time!
Thank you very much for your time and quick response. This site is very helpful.
