The basic state sales tax in Florida is 6%. Florida allows its many counties to charge an additional amount ranging from 1/4 percent to 1.5 percent (there are 5 different levels). When remitting the monthly sales tax, you are supposed to list (1) "Taxable sales NOT subject to discretionary sales surtax" and (2) "Total sales surtax collected." Setting up the basic 6 percent sales tax was easy. However, every thing I tried concerning the surcharge didn't work. The manual does not address this problem. All you good people out there "HELP!" sounds like you need to set up a second sales tax item for your surcharge at x% and then create a Sales tax Group (another item type in the item list) combining your base state tax and the surcharge to get the total percentage you charge.

The group is the tax item you should use on your sales and the sales tax report will show the breakdown of the two components.
