I am running 64 bit Windows Vista. I had previously installed QB 2006, QB 2008 and QB 2009. (I do work for clients using different versions). I never had any problems running all 3 versions (at separate times) until I installed QB 2002. This seems to be 32 bit, and I tried to run it in compatibilty mode with no luck. So, I installed it on my old(er) Windows XP system, where I had no problems. Now, however, I can't run any of my newer QB versions. I get an error message. I uninstalled QB 2002, hoping it would help, but it didnt. I'm still having problems with the newer versions of QB. They seem to be opening, but then I get an error message that "QB has encounted a problem" and it closes down. Any suggestions? This is driving me nuts.

Thanks,

Linda

I can only suggest that you uninstall all version of QB, then maybe a registry clean-up to get rids of any 'dregs', and start again.

You might also be interested to hear that my husband is using Windows 7, and QB 2006 Accountant UK seems to be entirely happy with it.

go to the program directory of the version that you want to run and run the reboot.bat

That will reset the dlls that the system looks for and usually cleans up the type of problem that you are experiencing..

I ran a registry cleaner, and "fixed" all the problems it found. It didnt help. I then ran reboot.bat as suggested on both 2008 and 2009 QB and it also didn't help. I guess next I'll uninstall both of these versions (As 2006 seems to work ok) and run the registry cleaner again. Then I'll start all over with new installs. Is this going to present a problem with activation? (Having to reregister, reactivate, etc).

Thanks for your suggestions.

You might want to investigate the wonders of Virtual Computing - have a look at VMWare and VirtualBox, for instance. I have QB 2006 on my PC, plus a VirtualBox installation with 2008. I can't have them both installed together because they require different installations of QODBC, so my virtual environment enables me to pretend I have two PCs.

Early versions of QB can not run on Vista.

I finally ended up doing a system restore, to a date before I had installed Quickbooks 2002. Now 2006, 2008 and 2009 seem to be working just fine. I knew QB 2002 was the problem, I just didnt realize it's installation impacted the newer versions.

Thank you all for your help and suggestions.
