restoring problems

Intalled Quickbooks 2001 on new computer with Windows xp. Tried to restore files from old computer to run payroll. Got message "The data is from newer version and cannot be used" Tried a "hard disk" install and still it will not allow me to install files. Please someone help. I can't to payroll

If you're installing your QB2001 as a fresh install, it will not have any of the updates that you (probably) had on your old machine. The version # is the important thing here. If you are sure you were right up to date with your updates (hmmm, sounds redundant doesn't it? :)) then you will have to download the updates for the QB that you just installed on your new computer.

That should then bring it "up" to the version that you were using on your old machine, and you should then be able to restore your file.
