Hi from a n00by!
I want a field on invoices/delivery notes which totals quantities i.e.
Quantity Item
3 Shirts
4 Sweaters
2 Neckties
9 Total Items
This is so that dispatch can check the total number of items in an order rather than having to reconcile every line of the invoice/delivery note.
It's not possible to insert a custom field which can 'calculate' so I guess it needs a software solution.
Is anyone aware of an add-in which could help?

Try posting again on the main forum. A couple of the guys posting there from the US and Australasia are good on add-ins, especially Big-John. He or one of the others might be able to help.
This UK Forum is OK for strictly UK specific issues, but your question is more general and deserves wider exposure.
Good luck

I am also looking for an item total, a sub total at the bottom of each page would be great. The field should also show on the screen so that you can match this number to your order sheet when entering.

I realize I'm answering an old post, but decided to answer because apparently several people want to do what you're asking.
Our company has just released a product called FormCalc into public beta testing, which can total the number of Items, as you've asked.
Beyond that, it can also provide "counts" of unique items in any column of a QuickBooks form. So if your form included a Custom Field called "Item Type" and the line Items looked like this:
Item Quantity Item Type
ShirtA 3 Shirt
ShirtB 2 Shirt
ShirtC 10 Shirt
SweaterA 2 Sweater
SweaterB 5 Sweater
FormCalc could calculate and display the following, appended to the Description field of your QuickBooks form:
"Total=22, Shirt=15, Sweater=7"
If you want to try FormCalc, it's a free download:

The ActiveX dll we have just produced would actually solve this as well. You can set up an Invoice in Excel however you want, then send the Invoice directly into QuickBooks. Print the one from Excel for the dispatch guys and use the one in QuickBooks for the Customer. The beauty of using Excel is that you do do absolutely anything you want.

Interesting! I had someone ask me today about quantities in columns; I'll send them to your site!
Thanks,

Rox...
Thanks, but please only be "mildly" enthusiastic until we've completed the public beta test of the software.<g>
Imagine what we could do if the QuickBooks SDK license didn't prevent us from accessing the QuickBooks database as well?
That's the product we really wanted to do...but according to Intuit's SDK license, an application that accesses any QuickBooks data by a means other than the SDK (in our case, via the clipboard) is precluded from using the SDK at all.

I did let them know it was in Beta, but gave them your site.... they were fine with that because up to now they hadn't found an option at all.
I work with a lot of eCommerce people who branch out to manufacturing and retail sites, so this is a feature many have been wishing for. I think it's great that you are testing this out, I think you will find many markets that will find it useful.
Keep us updated!
