I need to use 15 digit account numbers and QB only allows up to 7. Does anyone know how to make QB accept 15 digits in the account number?

All of the various fields in QB have limits that can't be changed.

I assume you want the additional characters because you're using the chart of accounts to track cost centers or divisions. First, you cannot add to the number of characters in the account field, and second, even if you could, QB sees it as a single "name" and does not let you produce reports by "part of the number only". This is what makes it hard to run QB in nonprofits, although the book Running QuickBooks in Nonprofits, by Kathy Ivens, has some terrific workarounds.

Those long account codes are usually a result of trying to do departmental or divisional accounting within the chart of accounts. That is really old school to use those so called account maskings to do department or divisional accounting, I would suggest taking a look at the QuickBooks class tracking feature which will set you free from that.

If that doesn't work out, though, as in the case with Minnesota charter schools which have an extremely complex chart of accounts system they are required to report to the state by, we use the account name and account description field together, rather than account number and account name, to take advantage of the longer field lengths, and then print the reports to show both name and description and it works ok.

But in most cases class tracking renders account masking obsolete...
