My book keeper looks after another company also using Quickbooks 2001. Due to Ill health he can no longer get to our respective businesses. Can he run 2 fully registered copies of the program one PC without have to resort to us each buying Quickbooks Pro, for multiple companies.

If, as I understand it, both companies are on the same version of the software, then there's no need for multiple copies of Quickbooks itself. It's just a case of closing one company data file down, and opening up the other. Your bookkeeper is the registered user of the software. How many sets of books he maintains using that software is irrelevant. The only thing he needs to be very careful of is making absolutely sure he knows what data file he has open before he makes any entries. The Company information should appear at the top of the Window, in the blue bar, and typing CTRL-1 will confirm this.
Hope this helps.

I would suggest that a shortcut to each data file is put on the Desktop. This makes it much easier to be sure of which file you have open.
