What is the difference between the Vendor list and the Other list?

A vendor is someone you purchase services and products from. Other can be anyone who isn't a vendor, customer, or employee. It could be something like your local fire company that you make a donation to, the county to whom you pay property tax, or an owner or partner.

I personally never encourage people to use the other names list because it's not uncommon for subcontractors to end up there (since they're not "vendors") and then you can't do 1099s for them.
To me, anyone that gets paid in QB is a vendor and anyone who pays me is a customer. Keeps it easy to understand for the clients.
