Help - Problem opening data file

After having problems with my QuickBooks program, I decided to do a re-install of my program. This went OK, but now when I try to open my 'company' file I get the following message:
'THIS DATA IS FROM A NEWER VERSION OF QUICKBOOKS. IT CANNOT BE USED'
This statement is not correct, as the program was able to open & use the file prior to the re-install.
Can anyone help me with this problem???

Once you download and install the program updates for your version, you should be fine. Each update release is considered a "newer version" internally by the program. When you re-install, it starts over again at release #1.
