balance checkbook

Every month I balance my checkbook, I am way off. When I do it the same way on paper, it balances fine. Have you ever had this problem?

you are probably saying your "open-balance" is way off and so as you click off on cleared checks, deposits and stuff it does not come togethor...You changed, deleted or added something to a previous month (one that had been reconciled already). If you got audit trail on, I would look at transactions in previous months that had been changed/deleted, etc in the last 30 days.

To find the exact month...check the balance in the checking account on your books at the end of any month and see if it ties to your reconciliation. If you find a month that is out, then go to the previous month of that month, if it is ok, then you found your month, if not ok you must continue going back month by month.
