I have an excel 2000 file that I'm trying to import into quickbooks 2001 it contains deposits. It says it has imported sucessfully, but it doesn't import amounts. This is what my sample file looks like.

!TRNS TRNSTYPE DATE ACCNT NAME AMOUNT DOCNUM
!SPL TRNSTYPE DATE ACCNT NAME AMOUNT DOCNUM
!ENDTRANS
TRNS Deposit 10/17/2001 Cash Account John Smith 300.00 1234
SPL Deposit 10/18/2001 Cash Account John Smith 150.25 1235
ENDTRANS
If you can tell me what I'm doing wrong I would very much appreciate it.

Thank you

change the Spl to Trns, assuming the second transaction is also a deposit, the spl line is for sub-dividing the actual transaction. and will normally be expressed in a negative amount so that the sum of the amounts on the spl lines will equal the amount on the trns line. I hope this helps.

You nearly got it right.

The first line, the TRNS, will be a positive amount and will be to the Account which is receiving the funds.

The second line is an equal negative amount, with the Account being where the funds are coming from.

The third line is the ENDTRNS.

I guess you were saving the file as a tab delimited file with .IIF.

Catrina,

I had the same problem, and then I realized that the numbers in the amount column were formatted in Excel with dollar signs. I went back to the backup I made before the import, and I changed the formatting in Excel to plain numbers (without commas or dollar signs), and then I was able to import the amounts.
