Hello!

I have 2 1/2 years experience doing full-cycle A/P and payroll processing in a mid-sized fishing company in Seattle. Fishing is not my bag but I'm good with numbers. With my arts background, I am very interested in learning to use QuickBooks, and helping creative businesses do their books using QuickBooks.

How did you get started? What could I do to simply get my foot in the door, and headed in the right direction? I have a BA in Bus Admin., and have thumbed thru the QuickBooks bible. However, it seems a far-cry from the hands-on experience one needs to deal with many issues in small businesses.

Thank you... thank you for any advice :)

I hope this is the right forum....

The best way to learn Quickbooks is to use it. I know there are books and seminars and tutorials, but if you don't have a way to apply all that it probably won't sink in. Most of us can tell you that even after years of using QB we still learn something new or still have questions occasionally. If they were using QB where you work that would be the best teacher as you would be learning while doing.

There is an opening here for a QuickBooks knowledgeable person for a film production and photography company. Now, could I try to sell myself as familiar with QuickBooks, and I could learn as I go?

thanks, jeannine

you could take the online proadvisor certification course for Quickbooks to get started. that would be one selling point for you. I certainly agree with the others that the best experience is actually going in and using the program. If you have the program I would go into the sample companies and play around. You could learn the ropes a little bit that way.

I just revisited my original posting here, and saw your feedback. Thanks for the advice Diedre. Is the certification course on Intuit's website? I will try there....

Take care,
